William Basil “Buddy” Smith

Obituary Date: Sunday, May 26, 2024

Evans Funeral Home of Jefferson announces the death of Mr. William Basil “Buddy” Smith, age 89, of Jefferson, Georgia who entered rest Sunday May 26, 2024. Mr. Smith was born in Staunton, Virginia the son of the late William Roller Smith and the late Gladys Althea (Graham) Smith. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his infant brother, Elwood Stuart Smith.

Buddy lived a life brimming with talents and passions, guided by his deep faith as a Jehovah's Witness. From a young age, Buddy was a devoted son and grew into a loving husband, father, and grandfather. His kindness extended beyond family, as he was a cherished friend to many.

His work ethic was legendary. He could be found skillfully navigating a school bus full of children, delivering essential goods, or ensuring smooth parking lot operations. His hands were equally comfortable behind the wheel, riding his motorcycles, wielding a guitar or drum set, or fixing a car with the expertise of an old school mechanic. His carpentry skills were evident in the way he cared for his home, and his love for keeping things tidy extended to his enjoyment of mowing the lawn.

He was, in the truest sense, a jack of all trades, but more importantly, a master of living life to the fullest. Whether on horseback, at the bowling alley, or tossing horseshoes, Buddy embraced every experience with an infectious enthusiasm. His faith was a constant source of strength and joy, and he undoubtedly looked forward to the beautiful paradise promised by Jehovah.

Survivors include his wife of sixty-five plus years, Doris R. Smith of Jefferson. Three sons, William Edwin “Bill” Smith (wife, Donna Dianne “Dee”) of Greenville, SC, David Basil Smith (wife, Joelle) of Brevard, NC and Mark Andrew Smith (wife, Tiffany) of Brevard, NC. Two grandchildren, Kevin William Smith of West Union, SC and Amber Nichole Daniel (husband, Dempsey) of Hartwell, GA. Sister, Belva Mae Lawhorne of Staunton, VA.

A memorial service will be held 2 PM Sunday June 9th at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses which is located at 38 Darnell Rd Jefferson GA. 30549
