Gary Powell

Gary Powell, 78, of Dawsonville passed away Friday, June 7, 2024 at his residence.

Born March 29, 1946 to the late Claude and Lois Powell, he was a lifelong resident of Dawson County.  A commercial truck driver most of his life, he retired as a driver for Sarah Lee.  Gary enjoyed farming, carpentry, the Atlanta Braves, NASCAR, and especially Bluegrass music.  Also preceding him in death was his wife of 51 years, Janice W. Powell; sister, Jean Gilreath; brothers, Arnold Powell, Dwight Powell, Frank Powell, and Ronnie Powell.

Surviving are his son and daughter in law, Derrick and Nicole Powell, Dawsonville; grandchildren, Megan Powell and Braxton Faulkner, Jacob Powell; sisters and brother in law, Carolyn Bruce, Dawsonville, Linda Powell, Dahlonega, Melody and Gerald Ballew, Talking Rock; sisters in law, Delorice Powell, Dahlonega, Mae Powell, Dawsonville; and a number of nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, June 12, 2024 at 1 o’clock at Bearden Funeral Home Chapel.  Rev. Eddie Treadaway and Rev. Russell Burt will officiate.  Interment will follow in Dawsonville Memorial Gardens.

The family will receive friends Tuesday from 4 until 8 at the funeral home.
