Reverend James David Gravitt

Reverend James David Gravitt, 74 of Gainesville, Georgia passed away on August 10th following a brief illness.  He was born July 15, 1950 to James and Ann Gravitt of Gainesville. 

David was passionate in his service of others loving people, animals and spending as much time in nature as possible.  Perhaps his most memorable attribute was his commitment to tell truly terrible jokes.  His boisterous laughter following an awful joke was infectious and brought joy to the room.  Rev. Gravitt was a graduate of East Hall High School, earned a Bachelor of Science from The University of Georgia “Sic Em” and held a Master of Divinity from Emory University. 

Rev. Gravitt is survived in death by his wife Cheryl Lynn Heller, his sister & brother in law Lamar & Sherryl Summer, adopted daughter Catlyn Gravitt, nephews Todd Summer, Evan Gravitt, nieces Marci Summer, Christine Gravitt, god-daughter Lora Jarrett, god-grandson Christopher Jarrett and Papa Dave had many children and grandchildren of the heart Jason Smith, Ethan Smith, Andrew Smith, Courtney Depriest, Matt Tanner, numerous fur babies and so many others.  Please know that if David knew you, you were his and you were beloved.

A memorial service honoring Rev. Gravitt will be held on September 7th at 11:00 AM at Memorial Park Funeral Home’s chapel. Family will receive visitors from 9:00 AM-11:00. 

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Alzheimer’s Association.  Even better, if you could just complete a random act of kindness for a complete stranger, tell a corny joke, give your pup an extra treat, put a smile on your face and say, “That one was for you Dave, Sic Em” our family would appreciate it.
