Laura “Anne” Veal

Obituary Date: Sunday, September 15, 2024

Mrs. Laura “Anne” Veal, age 70, of Hoschton, Georgia ended her earthly battle with cancer and began her glorious eternal life with Jesus on Sunday, September 15, 2024. Born in Gainesville, Georgia in 1954, Anne was the daughter of the late Tom and Allene Decking. She remained in Hall County all of her life until moving to Jackson County in 2016 to remain close to her children and grandchildren.

Nothing was more important to Anne than staying close to her family. Anne and her adult children and grandchildren would vacation together at the beach every year. They spent every holiday and birthday celebration together with countless family engagements in between. When her grandchildren had an event, be it sports, plays, or ballets, Anne was there. An example of how Anne was intentional in staying involved with her family is the way Anne learned to love watching football so that she could share in that love with her daughter’s family.  She even loved to watch the NFL draft so that she could see “those big boys cry on their mama’s” after being selected to a team. As technology advanced the speed of family life, Anne kept up with grandkids on text and Instagram, sharing reels and funny videos, and even participated in the family Fantasy Football league!  If there was a way to connect with family, Anne was in.

To her husband, she started as a high school sweetheart that became the understanding partner, devoted caretaker, caring mother, example of forgiveness and unwavering rock of love that held them together for over 53 years.  To her daughter and son, she was a hero, an inspiration, a confidant, a teacher, a pillar to lean against, a shoulder to cry on, a joy to laugh with, a best friend as well as the absolute epitome of a selfless mom.  To her son-in-law, she was nothing short of being a second mother.  To her children’s closest friends and to those dearest friends of her grandchildren, Anne was just as endearing and most often closely embraced as another “mom” and “grandma”. To her own grandchildren, she was and will always be their beloved “Na Na” (nay nay).  To everyone, she was loving, kind, generous, considerate, passionate and perhaps most importantly, available.

She is survived by her husband, Mike, son Anson, daughter Alison and husband Lance, three grandchildren, Taylor Rex, Wyatt, and Kyra Love, her precious fur babies Ava and Onyx and her sister “of another mother and daddy”, BFF Myra Parker.

Family and friends are invited to join Mike, Alison, and Anson as they host a public grave-side Memorial Service within the Chapel of Memories Mausoleum at 11:00 AM, Sunday, September 22, 2024, at Memorial Park Cemetery in Gainesville, GA.
