Rodney Michael Newton, loving father and devoted PopPop passed away on Monday September 30, 2024, at the age of 67 after a long battle with Pancreatic cancer.
Rod was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania on September 13, 1957, to Rod and Rose Newton. He was known for his love of people, especially his family. He devoted 40 years of combined service as a police officer and retired at the rank of Lieutenant. He served on several specialized units including the DUI task force, Court Security, Civil Executive Protection Unit, and Warrant Division. He was passionate about serving and protecting his community and taking care of his fellow officers. After retirement he devoted his time to supporting his grandchildren and had a love for travel. He never met a stranger!
Rod is survived by his children Heather Carlyle and Patrick Newton and 7 grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, October 5th at 11:00 am at Westminster Presbyterian Church in Gainesville, Georgia. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Martin Clinic.
