Evans Funeral Home of Jefferson announces the death of Mrs. Dorothy Lee Goldman Burwell, age 81, of Jefferson, Georgia, who passed away on Sunday, September 29, 2024. Mrs. Burwell was born in Augusta, Georgia, a daughter to the late John W. Goldman and the late Lillian Reese Goldman. Mrs. Burwell was of the Christian faith. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Burwell was preceded in death by her husband, Edward (Ted) Ingram Burwell, brothers, Raymond Goldman and John Goldman and her sister, Emmie Hallman.
Survivors include her daughter, Lillian “Lynn” Mulvey and her husband Shawn of Jefferson; son, John Daniel “Dan” Burwell and his wife Nanette of Pittston, PA; grandchildren, Lillianna Mulvey, Victoria Mulvey, Noah Mulvey and his fiancé, Grace Callow, Taylor Burwell and her fiancé, Keoni Johnson, Dylan Burwell; and a great grandchild, Eden Reese Mulvey, also survives. In addition, she leaves behind her sister-in-law, Reba Goldman, along with many cousins, nieces, and nephews whom she loved dearly.
Mrs. Burwell was married to her husband, Ted, for over sixty years before his passing in December, 2023. She worked alongside her love for much of her career. They trained racehorses, managed restaurants, and were food and beverage directors for various country clubs and assisted living centers. In their later years, they catered many local events. On her own, she also served as a nanny and a caregiver for a women's domestic abuse center. Mrs. Burwell embraced every job with passion and integrity, and leaves behind a legacy of that same work ethic which she instilled in her family.
Mrs. Burwell answered to many names, Mommy to her children, Dot to her friends, Dotsy to her family. However, the name she adored most was the one given by her grandchildren, Dot Dot. Dot Dot was a force. She would light up a room with her beautiful smile, but she could light a fire in defense of her loved ones. Her favorite memories were the years her grandchildren would spend their summers with them, playing golf and swimming at Lakeside Country Club in Laurens while their grandparents worked in the snack bar and pro shop there. She was the anchor of her family and will be gravely missed by all who knew her.
In accordance with Mrs. Burwell’s wishes, her remains were cremated and a Celebration of Life Service to honor both Mrs. Burwell and her beloved husband will be held at The Enclave, 4335 Hwy 53 suite 102, Hoschton, GA 30548 at 4PM on Wednesday, October 9, 2024, with a meal following on the premises. Pastor Natalee Dukes Hamby of Athens First United Methodist Church will officiate.
Because of her love for Asheville and the Biltmore House, in lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Operation Airdrop organization to provide aid to those in NC, SC, GA, and TN who were devastated by Hurricane Helene at https://operationairdrop.betterworld.org/campaigns/operation-helene.
