Mr. Verlyn Lamar "Billy" Farmer

Mr. Verlyn Lamar “Billy” Farmer, age 88 of Barnes Road, Commerce, Georgia passed away Sunday, October 27, 2024 at the Piedmont Athens Regional Hospital.

A son of the late William H. Farmer and Eula Mae Kelley Farmer, he was born August 19, 1936 in Stephens County, Georgia where he lived for a number of years.  He was a Veteran of the U.S. Air Force, serving 1953-1957 and a Veteran of the U.S. Army, serving 1963-1972, two tours in Vietnam.  He was a self-employed master carpenter, a member of the local union #225.  He was the last known survivor of the Currahee Mountain Residents.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Joe Allen Farmer and Winfred Farmer.

Survivors include his daughter and son-in-law, Joanne and Tony Mauro of Royston, Georgia; sons and daughter-in-law,  Steve Farmer of Commerce, Georgia and Andrew and Sonya Farmer of Jefferson, Georgia; five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends at the Acree-Davis Funeral Home on Sunday, November 3, 2024, 2 p.m. until 4 p.m.  Online condolences may be left for the family at www.acree-davisfh.com.

Inurnment will be in Mountain Grove Cemetery at a later date.
