Dwight Edward Burgess, 81, of Hoschton GA, passed away on November 17, 2024. Born on March 8, 1943, Dwight dedicated his life to his family, career, and community, leaving a legacy of kindness and generosity.
Dwight was a beloved husband to Sandra Burgess, a loving father to Damon Burgess and Karen Hastie, and a cherished grandfather and great-grandfather. He is survived by his grandchildren, Jon, Sophie, Wyatt, Connor, Paige, Ella, and Finley, and his brother, Wayne Burgess.
Dwight proudly served two years in the Army with time at Ft. Stewart, GA, where he met the love of his life and wife of 56 years. After leaving the Army he began a career in insurance, retiring from Utica Insurance Company as a Senior Underwriter, respected by his colleagues for his integrity and expertise.
He was a devout member of Buford United Methodist Church, where he found spiritual solace. Dwight's faith was a cornerstone of his life, guiding his actions and interactions.
Dwight enjoyed fishing, especially with his kids and grandkids. He found peace and joy in the serenity of nature. He also loved gardening, helping to build a church garden after retirement where the vegetables were given to families serviced by the church’s Sack Kids Hunger program. Most importantly, he cherished the time spent with his family and adored his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who brought immense joy to his life.
A service to celebrate Dwight's life will be held at Buford First United Methodist Church on Saturday, November 23, 2024, with visitation starting at 11am and the service at 1pm. There will be a reception in the fellowship hall immediately following. In lieu of flowers, the family request contributions be made to the Kidney Foundation, in memory of Dwight.
His life was a testament to the power of kindness and the importance of family and friendships, and he will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
