Richard "Kelly" Nix of Tiger GA passed away peacefully on Nov 21, 2024. He was 63 years old. Kelly was born August 23, 1961, In Atlanta, GA. He was born to the late Richard Delano Nix and Hilda Gresham Nix. He is survived by his wife, Cathy Nix of Tiger Ga. His Sister, Kathy Thompson (Chuck) of Yatesville, Ga, by his son Tyler Nix (Jennifer) of Danielsville Ga, Stepson, Chris Gulley of Rabun Gap, GA, Stepdaughter, Carrie Stecklein of Tiger, Ga. He is survived by 7 Grandsons, Rhett, Trey, Brayden, Allister, Colby, Colten, Sulley and 2 granddaughters, Remington and Ava.
Kelly served in the US Marine Corps for 14 years. He served his Country with honor and earned many awards and Commendations including the US Presidential Service Medal for his Service on Marine One. Later he joined the Aviation Department with the Georgia State Patrol and worked there for 10 years until he retired.
Kelly was a History and Civil War Buff. He enjoyed making desserts for his family and friends. He had a great sense of humor and loved being silly, fun loving and making people laugh. He was such a joy to be around, and he continued to have this same attitude even during his illness. He loved spending time with his grandchildren and reading the many Books that he collected. He had an amazing rapport with babies or kids and even dogs and they all seemed to know he really cared for them and trusted him. He loved to sing in the choir and go to church. Kelly was loved by all who knew him, be it his Military buddies, his family and his friends.
His last 8 months were spent at Mountain View Manor Nursing home of Bryson City, NC where we were greatly loved and well cared for.
The family will receive friends Monday November 25, 2024, at Beck Funeral Home from 1:00 PM until 2:00 Pm. A funeral service will follow at 2:00 PM in the Chapel of Beck Funeral Home. Chaplain Mark Coker will be officiating. The burial will be Friday November 29, 2024, at 1:00 PM at Georgia National Cemetery with military honors provided by the United States Marine Corp.
