Mr. Roy Saine, age 91, of Dahlonega, passed away peacefully on Friday, November 29, 2024, at his home surrounded by his family. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, whose life of service and dedication to his family and community will be deeply missed.
Roy was born on December 12, 1932, to the late Sam and Ollie Saine. A lifelong resident of Lumpkin County, Roy's commitment to his roots was evident throughout his life. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 45 years, Margie Saine, his son Greg Saine, and his siblings Bonnie Lou Wimpy, Guy Saine, and Loy Saine.
Roy proudly served his country in the United States Army. He spent much of his career making a lasting impact on his community. From 1958 to 1985, Roy, along with his dear friend J.D. Greenway, ran Greenway Grocery, a cornerstone of the Dahlonega area. Following that, Roy transitioned into a successful career in propane gas, where he would eventually become the manager of Mills Fuel Service.
Roy was also an active and devoted member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church, where he proudly held the title of the church's oldest member. His unwavering faith and dedication to his community were pillars of his life.
He is survived by his children, Wanda Edmondson, Tabrina Woody (Ricky), and Tracy Saine, all of Dahlonega; his brother-in-law Bo Jones (Ruth) of Dawsonville; his sisters-in-law Mildred Gaddis, Ruby Barron, Christine Jones, and Louise Saine, all of Dahlonega; two grandchildren as well as several nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM on Monday, December 2, 2024, at the chapel of Anderson-Underwood Funeral Home. The Rev. Franklin Grant and the Rev. Kris Butler will officiate. Interment will follow at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church Cemetery with the Rev. Charles Grant officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Sunday, December 1, from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM.
Roy's family would like to express their gratitude for the love and support they have received during this difficult time. From visits to calls and food brought to the house, much love has been felt from family and friends.
