Reverend Michael (Mike) Thompson was born November 23, 1961, in Gainesville, GA to the late Clinton Thompson and Annie Pearl Hill-Thompson. He left this life in the comfort of his home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, December 11, 2024. The Gainesville community knew him as "Rev. Mike Thompson." His grandchildren called him "Paw Paw." He attended Hall County School systems. Rev. Mike served in the United States Army National Guard where he trained as a 'Sharpshooter." Rev. Mike received his license to preach the Gospel at The Antioch Baptist Church in Gainesville, GA under the leadership of Pastor Mack Clark. Rev. Mike had the opportunity to exercise his gift in the work of the music ministry. He sung with and or shared the stages with various local and national gospel artist including "The Souls of Calvary, The Norman Brothers, The Browner Brothers, Lee Williams & The Spiritual QC's and The Canton Spirituals." He later formed the Gospel Group "Mike & The Gainesville Southernaires" where he ministered in songs and preached the Gospel while traveling to different cities. Rev. Mike later joined "Back To The Bible Holiness Church in Marietta, GA under the leadership of the late Apostle Raymond Moss, Sr." Rev. Mike was a fellowship minister and part of the evangelistic team through prayer, fasting, tent revivals and street meetings. He was previously employed by the Hall County Sheriff Department as a Deputy Sheriff, Thomas Concrete, US Security Associates, F2F Transport and held various trucking jobs before he became Owner/Operator of "Royalty Freight, LLC." He leaves to celebrate his life and cherish memories, his devoted and loving wife of 43 years, Sandra Mahaffey-Thompson, six sons, Jeremy (Aubrielle) Thompson, Charlton (Karla) Thompson and Bradley Thompson of Gainesville, GA, Senior Master Sergeant Xavier (Jennifer) Thompson of Lackland AFB, Texas, Fabian (Katherine) Thompson of Norcross, GA and Technical Sergeant Michael Thompson of Fort Meade, Maryland. A tribe of grandchildren, Ivan Soriano, Myah, Giovanni, Elijah, Elise, Rhys, Callum and Maya Thompson, One brother, Clinton "Timmy" Thompson of Gainesville, GA. One Uncle, Horace "Baby Sugg" Thompson of Baltimore, Maryland, He also leaves a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Funeral service will be held on Saturday, December 21, 2024 at Wimberly Funeral Home at 3:00 PM. Visitation will be one hour prior to service. Professional Services Entrusted to Wimberly Funeral Home.
