Peggy (Sue) Meyer

Obituary Date: Friday, December 20, 2024

Mrs. Peggy (Sue) Meyer, 86, of Lula, GA. died on Friday, December 20, 2024. A Memorial Service for Mrs. Meyer will be announced at a future date.

Sue is preceded in death by her father Howard Hayworth (H.H.) Walker, her mother Gladys Worley (Walker), and her sister Betty Staten, Johnson City, TN. She is survived by her husband Delbert Lee Meyer, her son Michael Meyer, (Tracy), St. Louis, MO., her daughter Michelle Meyer McMains, (Tim), Nashville, TN, and her sister Ann Kilby, Kennesaw, GA.

Sue Meyer was a graduate of the Baptist Health Sciences University in Memphis, Tennessee a graduate of Palm Beach Atlantic College/University with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing, and completed the coursework for a master’s in nursing at Palm Beach Atlantic University.

Sue was a working Mom spending her vocational career as an emergency room nurse and emergency department leader at Good Samaritan Medical Center in West Palm Beach, Florida. Sue retired from Good Samaritan and she and Del moved to Northeast Georgia. Sue ended her paid vocation as a nurse educator for Legacy Link serving in dementia and Alzheimer’s education and services. 

After retirement Sue and Del pursued their passion of traveling by motor home to various Christ-centered organizations in the Southeast United States and Canada serving various faith-based organizations. The organizations included: Georgia Disaster Relief in Pensacola, FL and Houston, TX for Hurricane relief, Campers on Mission at Cedarmore Baptist Center in Kentucky, Ridgecrest Lifeway in Black Mountain, NC, Lake Yale Baptist Convention Center Lake Yale, FL, Canadian Baptist Association Cochran, Ontario, Blue Springs, FL Baptist Center, Windemere in Roach, MO, Camp Pinnacle Clayton, GA. Sue and Del always returned home to Concord Baptist Church where they attended the Sunshiners Group for 28 years.

When Sue and Del were not traveling, they volunteered at The Good Samaritan Food Ministry. Sue had a life-long love and passion for music, singing in the choirs of the churches they were members and learning to play the dulcimer after retirement. She loved performing dulcimer concerts in and around their home in Northeast, Georgia with the Gainesville Strummers. Sue was a lifelong musician regularly playing piano for mid-week devotional services at Laurel Lodge Assisted Living and Memory Care where she was a resident. Sue was married to the love of her life Del for 63 years. W.R. Strickland & Sons, Clermont, GA.
