Michael Lee Duttweiler

Obituary Date: Friday, January 10, 2025

Michael Lee Duttweiler passed away suddenly at his home in Clermont, GA on Friday, January 10th, 2025, in the midst of a snowstorm.

Michael was born January 17, 1953, in San Antonio, Texas to the late Patricia Cloud Duttweiler and 2d Lieutenant Artice Lee Laird. One month before his birth, his biological father was killed during an airplane crash at Larson Air Force Base in Washington. His mother later remarried, and Michael was adopted by Patricia's new husband, Lieutenant Colonel David W. Duttweiler.

Michael spent his teenage years in Athens, GA and cultivated many friendships that he continued throughout his life. In Athens and for the remainder of his life, he shared a love for music with all who knew him.

Michael was retired from the US Navy and after the Navy, Michael was very involved in computers and technology. He worked and consulted on many computer projects and provided his knowledge and expertise to many of his friends and family.

Michael's personality was bigger than life and he will be missed by so many who loved him. He was tall and handsome, and he made an impact when he entered a room. He never met a stranger and was charming and articulate in his knowledge of a wide range of subjects. His view of the world and those in it was far ranging and his intelligence always shown through.

Michael was a dapper dresser and loved to shop online. He was always fastidious in his appearance, and he loved to attend family functions and to watch the Georgia Bulldogs. He loved animals and shared his love with many pets over the years.

Michael is survived by his loving and devoted partner of almost 33 years, Susan Crowell, with who he shared a love filled journey full of happy experiences and joy, his first wife Ellen Duttweiler (Bill Raines) who he loved and respected, his daughters Carolyn Duttweiler Mitchell (Steve), Sarah Duttweiler Aiken (Michael) and Laura Duttweiler Benz (Ryan).  Michael loved all of his daughters, and they were the greatest joy of his life; his seven grandsons, Noah, Cole and Luke Mitchell, Lachlan and Andrew Aiken and Aspen and Skylar Benz; his four brothers, William "Bill" Duttweiler (Delaina Foster), Jonathan "Jon" (Laura) Duttweiler, Colonel James "Jim" (Kathy) Duttweiler and Peter "Patrick Mackellan" Duttweiler, his aunt, Pat Schenkel, and many nieces and nephews.

A Celebration of Life will be planned in the near future.
