Mavis Maud Brown

Mavis Maud Brown was born in the parish of Saint James, in Jamaica, West Indies on the 3rd of March,1935. She was one of many children born to Mulvina and Joseph Brown. She lived a fulfilling life in Montego Bay until she moved to Kingston where she worked as a seamstress.

She met her husband Raymond F. Tummings in Kingston and together they raised 9 beautiful children.  They later emigrated to the United States in 1983 spending many years in New York, where she worked as a home attendant. After visiting her daughter Pauline in 2000, Mavis and her husband decided to retire to Georgia where she dedicated herself to being a full-time confidante, grandmother, and later, great-grandmother to her family.

On Thursday January 16th, 2025, Mavis Tummings transitioned to the Lord peacefully in her home with her husband by her side at the age of 89 years.

She will be greatly missed and lovingly remembered by her husband of 70 Years, Raymond; children: Errol, Conroy, Janet, Audrey, Doreen, Donna, Judith, and Raymond Jr. She was predeceased by her beautiful daughter Pauline. Her memory will be cherished by her grandchildren, great grandchildren, siblings, nieces, nephews, and all extended family. Mavis lived each day for the glory of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ in whose presence she now rests.

Funeral service will be held Saturday, January 25, 2025, at 1 PM at Hamilton Mill Memorial Chapel. Pastor Joseph Dunson will officiate. Interment will follow at Hamilton Mill Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends Saturday, January 25, 2025, from 12 PM – 1 PM at the funeral home.
