Dr. Wilton Langford White of Gainesville, Georgia, passed away peacefully on January 14, 2025, at the age of 90. Wilton was a native of North Georgia, born on July 10, 1934, to the late Albert Pearson and Mary Langford White. In 1961, he married Ann Tarver. Wilton was a loving, devoted husband to Ann throughout their marriage of 63 years.
Wilton graduated from Habersham Central High School and attended Piedmont College in Demorest, Georgia before transferring to Emory University in Atlanta where he was the youngest member of his dental school class. He graduated in 1958 from Emory School of Dentistry as a Doctor of Dental Surgery and was a member of the Xi Psi Phi professional fraternity.
Upon graduation from Emory, Wilton began his dental career at the Milledgeville State Hospital. From there, after a short time in Augusta, Georgia, he and Ann moved to Gainesville where he opened a general dentistry practice. Through hard work and dedication to his patients and office staff, Wilton grew his practice into one of the largest in north Georgia. He genuinely enjoyed helping people. His commitment to his patients’ well-being and his warm, caring personality brought generations of families to trust him as their dentist. He was extremely proud of the compassionate experience he and his talented and devoted staff created in the office.
Active in the dental community, Wilton served as president of the Hall County Dental Society and the Georgia Academy of Dental Practice. He was a life member and Honorable Fellow of the Georgia Dental Association and a life member of the Hinman Dental Society. He received the Distinguished Service Award from the Hall County Jaycees in 1968. He was a board member of The Citizens Bank in Gainesville. He and Ann have been members of First Presbyterian Church of Gainesville for 60 years.
Wilton cherished his family and friends. He liked nothing better than spending time with his children and grandchildren, creating experiences and memories for them. He especially enjoyed taking his grandchildren out on the lake to water ski, wake board, or just jump off the boat roof. His interests were broad, and he enjoyed learning from others. Some of his most valued friendships grew from his explorations of flying, boating, chess, astronomy, wine, tennis, golf, and investing.
Wilton is survived by his wife, Ann; his daughters Stephanie and Susanne; four grandchildren: Wilton, Donald, Caroline and Katherine; and many extended family members whom he held dear.
A private family graveside service will be held at Hebron Presbyterian Church cemetery, with a celebration of life service to be announced at a later date.
