Robert “Bobby” Harris, 86, of Jefferson, GA died peacefully at home on Wednesday, January 22, 2025, following an extended illness. Robert was born in Jefferson to his parents, Joseph L. and Inez Walker Harris. He was preceded in death by his parents; twin brother, James P. Harris; and great-granddaughter, Cheyenne Hewell.
Robert retired from the University of Georgia as High Voltage Electrical Lineworker after 30 years, served the citizens with Jackson Electric Membership Corporation for 15 years, and was a veteran of the United States Army.
He enjoyed trout fishing, duck hunting, and anything outdoors with family and friends. One of his favorite pastimes was studying the Bible and sharing that knowledge with his church, family, and friends. At 29 years of age, he accepted Jesus Christ as his personal Lord and Savior and he believed, without a doubt, that God is Great and that you can never give too much nor love too much.
Robert is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Betty Stevens Harris; twin daughters, Janice H. (Terry) Minish, Commerce and Janet (Edgar) Ludgar, Plano, TX, and Angela H. Hewell, Commerce; four grandsons, Travis (Carrie Ann) Hewell, Mableton, Brad Hewell, Andrew (Lakyn) Minish, Athens, and Grant Ludgar, Plano, TX; two granddaughters, Abby (Jeff) Rogers, Commerce and Brenna Ludgar (Hector Orellana), Houston, TX; great-grandchildren, Renee Daniel, Rileigh Hewell, Savannah Hewell, Aubree Hewell, Harrison Rogers, Harper Rogers, and was awaiting the arrival of baby Minish in May 2025. He is lovingly remembered by his sister, Lenora Rogers, Bogart; and his brother, Charles (Janie) Harris, Anderson, SC.; two brothers-in-law, John Stevens and Lester Stevens; five sisters-in-law, Bessie Minish, Ola Parsons, Nora Waters, Mary Allen and Mildred Bell; as well as a number of nieces and nephews on both sides of the family and cousins both near and far survive.
Funeral services will be at 1:45 PM, Tuesday, January 28 at the chapel of Little-Ward Funeral Home with Pastor Allen Drew and Pastor Adam Crenshaw officiating. Interment will follow in Jackson Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from noon until the time of the service. In lieu of flowers, please make donations in Robert’s memory to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital.
