Frederick J. Stemp, Sr., born June 17th, 1935, in the Bronx, NY, NY came home to the Lord, peacefully in his sleep, on January 27th, 2025, at his home, surround by family, in Braselton, Georgia, after a 6-year battle with Parkinson’s disease.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Anitamarie, his cousin Sister Laura Morgan, F.M.S.C. and Provincial, his son Frederick, Jr (59), daughter-in-law Ellen (59), daughter Jennifer White (57), son-in-law Paul White (60), with 10 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren; Robert (39) wife Stacey, son Preston; Jeremy (38) wife Megan, children Lily, Virgina and Hazel; Chase (37); Paul, Jr. (35) wife Monica, children Paul III, Maverick, Callum, and Penelope; Blythe (33) husband Tyler, 3 children; Teresa (32) husband Dakota; Houston (31) wife Gina; Skylar (29) wife Lindsey; Catherine (29) husband Cyprian, children Cecilia, Immaculata, Francis, Allen, and expecting twins; Mary (24) husband Levi, son Artemas; and Frederick III (17).
As a youth he was active in the Boy Scouts of America. He served on Camp Staff at 10 Mile River Camps and eventually became Camp Program Director. He obtained the rank of Life Scout and was a Brotherhood Honor in the Order of the Arrow.
Fred attended Westchester Community College and obtained his A.A.S. in Mechanical Drawing. He then went on to Bradley University where earned his undergraduate and master’s degrees in mechanical engineering.
After graduation he enlisted in the United States Navy as a Draftsmen Mate (DM4) where he served aboard the USS Eldorado (AGC-11) a Mount McKinley-class amphibious force command ship and on the Pacific Fleets Admerial Staff.
After the Navy he work for Phillips Electronics where he helped to design the fuel and gauge systems for the Lunar Lander. Fred never stopped furthering his career or learning. After Phillip’s he was an Adjunct Professor of Drafting at Northern Virginia Community College Washington Drafting School, and the Industrial Arts Department Head at Stonewall Jackson High School.
In 1978 he worked for Contel International and moved the family to Tehran, Iran. After the fall of the Shah, he returned to the States and moved to Atlanta and continued to work for Contel Information Systems. 1983 he returned to Virginia and worked for Digital Equipment Corporation until it went defunct in 1998. He returned to teaching at Stonewall Jackson High School and retired as the Technology Education Teacher at Williamsburg Middle School. That same year he was named International Technology Teacher of the year.
Fred and his wife retired in 2011 and move to Georgia to be closer to family. In retirement he enjoyed woodworking, spending time with family, being a member of CHIRP at his church, and playing his theater organ and piano.
