Charlotte Jean Hewell

Ms. Charlotte Jean Hewell, age 79 of Commerce, passed away peacefully at her residence April 17, 2025 following an extended illness. Ms. Hewell was born on April1,1946 to the late Charlie and Carrie Hopper McDonald. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Billy Ray Hewell and her son Michael Eugene Hewell. Ms. Hewell was one of eleven children born to her parents and she was preceded in death by all but one surviving sibling.

Ms. Hewell enjoyed hunting and fishing but her biggest passion was being outdoors gardening her vegetables and berry bushes. She was a loving mother and Nanny and will be missed dearly. She retired from Fieldale where she worked as a supply room clerk.

Survivors include her sons, Jackie Hewell and Brad Hewell, Commerce; her son-in-law and daughter, Kelly and Melinda Strickland, Flowery Branch; her sister, Diane Grizzle, Gainesville; eight grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and other relatives. At Ms. Hewell’s request there will be no services.

The family would like to express our sincere gratitude to NGMC Hospice nurses and caregivers for their kindness, support and care shown to our mother and to us during her illness. We would also like to thank Little-Ward Funeral Home, Commerce, for their excellent care and compassion during this difficult time.
