Essie Mae Smith Mathis

Mrs. Essie Mae Smith Mathis, age 96, of Gainesville, GA (Forsyth County) passed away Friday, February 6, 2009. She was the oldest female member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Henry Glenn Mathis and sisters, Blanche Castleberry and Grace Bennett.

Survivors include daughter and son-in-law, Dorothy Ann and Neil Parks of Gainesville, son and daughter-in-law, Jimmie and Mary Mathis of Gainesville; granddaughters, Levenia & Eston Martin and Evonda Mathis all of Gainesville; great granddaughters, Laura Martin, Abbie Martin and Lena and Mark Bennett all of Gainesville; 2 great great grandchildren, John Martin Bennett and Reagan Bennett; sister, Doris Millwood of Gainesville; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Faye and Claude Martin, Carl and Marguerite Mathis and Marcelle Mathis all of Gainesville.

Funeral services will be held Sunday, February 8, 2009 at 1:30 p.m. in the Ingram Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Scott Sorrells officiating. Interment will follow in Sawnee View Gardens. The family will receive friends Saturday, February 7, 2009 from 3:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m.
