Carl William Thurmond
(January 30, 1924 - March 9, 2009)
Mr. Carl William Thurmond, 85 of Whites Mill Road, Gainesville died Monday March 9, 2009 at the Northeast Georgia Medical Center.
Born in White County, Mr. Thurmond had lived in Hall County for the past 28 years. He was the son of the late Fred and Pearl Allen Thurmond. He was retired from Mt. Vernon Mills in Alto, and had also worked for the Meat Corral and the Western Sizzlin Steak House in Gainesville for a number of years. Mr. Thurmond served in the United States Navy during World War II and was a member of the Yellow Creek Baptist Church. Mr. Thurmond is preceded in death by his first wife, Ruby, a son, Roger Thurmond and Step-son, Phillip Mote, sisters, Ruth Heaton, Myrtice Stewart, brothers, James Thurmond and Garrison Thurmond.
Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday March 11, 2009 at the Yellow Creek Baptist Church. The Rev. Dean Bryant, the Rev. Ricky Stone, the Rev. Chris Gilbert and the Rev. Robert Nix will officiate. Interment will follow in the Hills Crossing Baptist Church Cemetery in Habersham County with full military honors. The family will receive friends at the Mason & Ward Funeral Home, 1190 McEver Road, Gainesville, Ga. Tuesday evening March 10, 2009 from 6:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m.
Survivors include his Wife, Eulene Mote Thurmond, Gainesville; Sons and Daughters-in-law; Kenneth and Brenda Thurmond, Clarkesville; Doug and Janice Thurmond, Mt. Airy; Bruce and Carolyn Thurmond, Mt. Airy; Daughter-in-law; Marie Thurmond, Clarkesville; Step-son and wife; Rickey and Shirley Mote, Gainesville; Sister, Eloise Carmon, Gainesville; 11 Grandchildren and 12 Great Grandchildren and a number of neices and nephews also survive.
