Dewey Leon Thompson Sr.

Mr. Dewey Leon Thompson Sr., age 70, of Cleveland, GA (Lumpkin County), died Wednesday July 15, 2009 at the Chestatee Regional Hospital in Dahlonega.

Mr. Thompson was born in Lumpkin County April 19, 1939. He grew up in Lumpkin County and lived in Hall County for many years. He was a retired automobile mechanic and was a member of Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church in Lumpkin County.

He was the son of the late Johnny and Ada Corbin Thompson and was also preceded in death by brothers, Earl Clinton Thompson, J.C. Thompson, and Don Thompson; and a sister, Thelma Way.

Mr. Thompson is survived by his companion, Janice Head, Cleveland, GA; sons and daughters-in-law, Leon Thompson, Oakwood, GA, Johnny Thompson, Gainesville, GA, Shane and Sarah Thompson, Commerce, GA, Marty and Jennifer Thompson, Suwanee, GA; daughters and sons-in-law, Teresa and Donnie Hicks, Gainesville, GA, Cheryl and Ronnie Truelove, Gainesville, GA, Lisa and Joe Cox, Gainesville, GA; brother, Mack Thompson, Gainesville, GA; sisters and brothers-in-law, Jan Bazemore, Ohio, Shelia Thompson, Demorest, GA, Opal Shelnut, Cleveland, GA, Diane and Frank Christy, Cleveland, GA, Kathy and Kenneth Buckalew, Woodland, GA. 24 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, and a number of other relatives also survive.

Funeral services for Mr. Thompson are scheduled for 1 PM Friday July 17, 2009 at the Banister Funeral Home Chapel in Dahlonega with Rev. Donnie Hicks officiating.

Interment will follow in the Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church Cemetery in Lumpkin County.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday from 4 PM until 6 PM and from 7 PM until 9 PM.
