Edward H. Stowers

Edward Howard Stowers, 87, of Lula, passed away Wednesday, August 12, 2009, at his home, following a period of declining health.



A Hall County educator for almost 40 years, Edward taught agriculture at Lula High School and East Hall High School and was inducted into the Agriculture Education Hall of Fame in 2002. He also was awarded the Degree of Honorary American Farmer and the Outstanding Vocational Agriculture Teacher in Georgia for his contributions to education.



Edward served in the U.S. Army with the 197 Anti-Aircraft Artillery Battalion during World War II, and participated in the 1944 D-Day landings at Omaha Beach in Normandy, France, as a halftrack driver.



He was born at Downey Hospital in Gainesville, Georgia on April 28, 1922, to the late Howard Spurgeon and Laura Pearl Robinson Stowers. He was married to the late Loretta Grogan Stowers.



Edward was the eldest member of First Baptist Church of Lula, serving more than 50 years as a deacon, church clerk, and Sunday School teacher. He is preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Loretta Grogan Stowers, a son, Stanley Ross Stowers and his brother, Jimmy Robinson Stowers.



Edward is survived by a son, Scott Aubrey Stowers; a daughter and son-in-law, Myra Stowers Evans and Vince Evans; a grandson, Andrew Stephen Evans; a granddaughter, Emily Bennett and her husband, Chad Bennett; an uncle and his wife, Herbert W. and Blanche Robinson; and an aunt, Elise Stowers Huffstetler.
