Mattie Jo Wheeler

Mattie Jo Cragg Wheeler, age 94 of Alto, passed away Sunday, January 10, 2010, at Northeast Georgia Medical Center.

Born in Gordon County on February 09, 1915, she was the daughter of the late Anderson Lafayette and Ida Mary Shirley Cragg. She was a homemaker and the oldest living member of Enon Baptist Church. She enjoyed gardening, flowers and yard work. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband, William Boyd Wheeler; son, Tommy Joe Wheeler; siblings, Alice Kirby, Dovie Crider, Rosie Kelley, Clyde Cragg, Levi Cragg, Conie Parker, Mellie Jo Wilbanks, Canie Cragg and Pearlean Terry.

Surviving are daughters and sons-in-law, JoAnn & Hoyt Dodd and Mary & Michael Sheridan all of Alto; daughter, Joyce Wheeler of Alto; brother, John Cragg of Alto; five grandchildren and eight great grandchildren; also surviving are numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services are 12:30 pm Tuesday, January 12, 2010, at Enon Baptist Church with Rev. Doyal Conley and Rev. Lloyd Martin officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery with Rev. Craig Summitt officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6-8 pm on Monday.
