Maudie Lowery

Mrs. Maudie Lowery, 94, of Gainesville died Saturday, March 6, 2010 at the Northeast Georgia Medical Center after a sudden illness.

Born in Mitchell County, GA Mrs. Lowery loved most of her adult life in the Atlanta Area before moving to Gainesville, She lived at Lanier Village Estates, Gainesville, for the last several years. She was the daughter of Luther Henry Hays (1875-1944) and Katie West (1879-1956) of Hopeful, GA, and the wife of Eugene T. Lowery of Atlanta. Mr. Lowery was regional manager for the Black and Decker Company until his retirement. Mrs. Lowery was a homemaker and member of Calvary United Methodist Church in Atlanta and after moving to Gainesville became a member of First United Methodist Church of Gainesville.

Survivors include two daughters and sons-in-laws, Wynelle and Dr. Jim Butts, of Gainesville, GA. Genie and Leon Sowell of Ocala, FL; five grandchildren, Dr. Allen Butts of Gainesville, Larry Butts of Birmingham, AL, Kathy Butts of Atlanta, Terry Jackson of Lake Orion, MI and Lee Jackson of Oak Harbor, WA and ten great grandchildren. Her husband, Eugene T. Lowery, and fourteen of her siblings precede her in death.

Memorial services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, March 10, 2010 in the chapel of the First United Methodist Church, Thompson Bridge Road, Gainesville. The Reverend Richard Evans and the Reverend Dr. Terry Walton will officiate. Interment will be held at another time in the Memorial Gardens, First United Methodist Church, Gainesville. The family will receive friends in the reception hall of the First United Methodist Church following the memorial services.
