Kermit D. Reid

Obituary Date: Monday, March 8, 2010
Kermit D. Reid, 83, of Cumming was called home to be with his Lord on March 8, 2010 after complications from a recent surgery. Kermit was born in Dahlonega and was the son of the late John and Minnie Reid. He spent most of his adult life in the Atlanta area and had resided in Cumming since 2001.

Kermit proudly served his country in the US Army and is a WWII veteran. After returning from the war, he pursued his love of broadcasting and was a radio broadcaster for WDUN in Gainesville and WTJH in East Point. Upon graduating from Southern Tech, he spent the bulk of his career with the FAA as an electronics technician.

Kermit will be remembered for his infectious smile, sharp sense of humor and deep love of God, family and nature. We were deeply proud to call him Honey, Dad and Papa.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 59 years, Mamie (Rider) Reid also from Dahlonega. This long beautiful union produced two sons, Thomas (Rebecca) Reid of Ventura County, CA and Darrell (Veronica) Reid of Roswell. Mr. Reid is also survived by grandsons, Lance Allen Reid of Gainesville, Daniel Lane Reid of Dallas and John Patrick Reid of Minneapolis, MN; and great-granddaughters, Brooklynn and Elizabeth Reid of Gainesville.

Funeral services are scheduled for 11:00 am on Thursday, March 11, 2010 in the chapel of McDonald and Son Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Bethlehem Baptist Church Cemetery in Dahlonega. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, March 10, 2010 from 6:00 â
