Luke Taylor

Luke Taylor, age 97, of Cornelia, GA passed away on Saturday, June 19, 2010, at The Oaks at Scenic View.

Mr. Taylor was born on March 16, 1913, in Lakemont, GA to the late Henry and Maude Shirley Taylor. He was the widower of Annie Grace Meister Taylor. Mr. Taylor graduated from Lakemont High School. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Cornelia, the oldest member of the Toccoa Elks Club #1820, a member of Toccoa VFW Post #434, and a member of LeTourneau-Wabco Retirees. He was a retired employee of LeTourneau Westinghouse Manufacturing with 41 years of service.

Survivors include daughters and sons-in-law, Judie and James Burrell, Cornelia, GA and Wanda and Rick Martin, Hiawassee, GA; sister-in-law, Nelda Taylor, Athens, GA; brother , Gibbs Taylor, Charlotte, NC; 3 grandchildren, Bryan Martin, Clayton Martin, and Angie Burrell Murphy; and 3 great-grandchildren, Dailey, Mary Catherine, and John Martin.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, June 21, 2010, at 11:00 a.m. at Whitfield Funeral Home, North Chapel, Demorest, GA with Rev. David Turner officiating. Interment will follow in Yonah Memorial Gardens.

The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m. on Sunday, June 20, 2010, at Whitfield Funeral Home, North Chapel, Demorest, GA.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Baptist Church, Retirement of Debt Fund, P.O. Box 96, Cornelia, GA 30531 and flowers are accepted.
