Dr. Calvin Allen

Dr. Calvin Allen, age 85, of Club Drive , Gainesville , passed away at his residence following an extended illness.

Funeral services are scheduled for Tuesday, July 6, 2010 at 10:00 am in the chapel of First Baptist Church with interment to follow in the Memorial Park Cemetery. Reverend Dr. Bill Coates will officiate. The family will receive friends Tuesday, July 6, 2010 from 9:00 to 10:00 am in the parlor of First Baptist Church .

Dr. Allen was born on February 4, 1925 to the late Calvin Fenner Allen, Sr. and Maude Beard Allen in Brunswick , GA. Calvin was a graduate of Emory University and he was an undergraduate and was a member of SAE fraternity. He served in the US Air Corp. during WW II. Calvin graduated from the Medical College of Georgia earning his degree in internal medicine, then specializing in anesthesiology. He relocated to Gainesville in 1957 and worked with nurse anesthetist Primrose Basche and founded Anesthesia Associates of Gainesville, Georgia. He served as Chief of Anesthesia at the Hall County Hospital which is now Northeast Georgia Health Systems. Dr. Allen also served on the Board of Director for the Gainesville Jr. College and The Citizens Bank, and was a member and deacon of the First Baptist Church . He enjoyed teaching citizenship and English as a second language classes at the church. Dr. Allen also enjoyed tennis, golf, and Lake Lanier .
