Maybelle Gailey

Maybelle Gailey, age 97 of Alto, passed away Tuesday, July 13, 2010, at her residence following an extended illness.
Born in Habersham County on October 27, 1912, she was the daughter of the late Alfred and Margaret Jane Shirley Gailey. Ms. Gailey was a life long member of B.C. Grant Baptist Church. She was a retired teacher, having taught for 37 years in Hall and Habersham counties, and was the pioneer teacher of special education in Habersham County. In addition to her parents, Ms. Gailey was also preceded in death by her sisters, Robia Gailey, Ola Ferguson, Mamie Mercer, Bonnie Shuler and Flora Nell Duncan and a brother, Lonnie D. Gailey. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
Surviving are nephews and wives, Lonnie D. and Mary Gailey of Brunswick and Cecil and Brenda Ferguson of Maysville; nieces and husbands, Dawn and Eddie Barden of Cornelia and Denise and Michael York of Cornelia; nieces, Margaret Sigretto of Monroe and Jane Ferguson of Alto; cousin and caregiver, Angie Pritchett of Alto.
Funeral services are 11:00 am Thursday, July 15, 2010, at B.C. Grant Baptist Church with Rev. Doyal Conley and Rev. Jan Thompson officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5-8 pm on Wednesday.
