Rebecca (Jackie) Marshall Nivens

Obituary Date: Monday, August 30, 2010
Rebecca (Jackie) Marshall Nivens,age 72, of Gainesville, Ga. A native of Orlando, Florida. Daughter of Author Carol (AC) Jr. and Mary Lamar Marshall, passed away on the evening of Monday, August 30, 2010.

Funeral services are scheduled for Thursday, September 2, 2010 at 11:00 am in the Chapel of First Baptist Church. Dr. Bill Coates will officiate. The family will receive friends Wednesday, September 1, 2010 from 6:00 to 8:00 pm at Memorial Park Funeral Home North-Riverside Chapel.

Jackie grew up in Monroe, GA where she was Miss Rutlidge Lion, the first and only Hard Labor Creek Beauty Pageant winner and a charter member of the Monroe Drum and Buggle Corp. where she was a majorette and marched in the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade. Most well known for her athletic ability from high school basketball to ALTA Tennis and Nastar Ski racing in Vail, CO. She attended University of Georgia. She was a fierce competitor and cheerleader for all her children and grand children sporting events and most well known for her love of the Georgia Bulldogs. She could be found fox hunting for Shake Rag Hounds and also on the front row of every Gainesville Ballet performance and day after Thanksgiving wrestling matches for years. She loved kitties and flower arranging and most of all entertaining her extended and ever growing family for every holiday she could decorate and cook for, complete with Easter Egg hunts and Santa special deliveries. Jackie volunteered for Meals on Wheels. She will leave an indelible mark on all her family and friends as a consummate prankster and avid supporter of all things happy about life. Jackie is preceded in death by her parents, Arthur and Mary Lamar Jackson Marshall.

Jackie is survived by her husband, Ed Nivens of Gainesville, daughter, Rebecca Bradley Fretty of Greenwich, CT, son, John Walter Bradley of Gainesville, daughter, Lydia Bradley Meek of El Paso, TX, son, John Allen Nivens of Gainesville, son, James T. Nivens of Gainesville, daughter, Nancy Nivens Clinton of Luodon, TN, grandchildren, Elizabeth, Jackson, Dylan, Danielle, Forest, Allen, Leslie, Laura, Ashley, Seth, Jamie, great-grandchildren, Sara, Annie, Ben, and Ellie, brother, Arthur Carol (AC) Marshall III, nephew and niece, Ace and Mimi Marshall.

In lieu of flowers, donation may be made to First Baptist Church, 21st Century Fund, 751 Green Street NW, Gainesville, GA 30501.
