Robert Michael Simmons

Robert Michael Simmons, age 66, passed away at his home in Clarkesville, Georgia, September 27.

He was the elder son of James H. Simmons (deceased) who was born in Clayton, Georgia, and Fannie Lee McNeal Simmons (deceased) who was born in Gainesville, Georgia. Mike was a graduate of Rabun County High School. He majored in music at Jacksonville State College in Alabama, but was known in Clarkesville as a watercolorist who exhibited frequently in the galleries of Northeast Georgia, and as an active member and officer of the Habersham Arts Council.

He is survived by his sister, Jimmie Sharon Simmons, who now resides in Morgantown, West Virginia, and her four children: Joseph Robert Jones, Jr. of Charlotte, North Carolina; Laura Eloise Shea of Frederick, Maryland; William James Jones of Kennesaw, Georgia; and Elizabeth Anne Piper of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

His brother, Benjamin Daniel Simmons, passed away in November 2003, and is the father of Christopher Scott Simmons and Matthew Daniel Simmons, surviving nephews.

The family is honoring Mike's request that no public service be planned.
