Mary Eva Skelton

Mrs. Mary Eva Skelton, age 89 of Cleveland, passed away Tuesday, October 12, 2010 at Gateway Health and Rehab Center following an extended illness.

Mrs. Skelton was born in Heflin, AL on November 18, 1920 to the late Doby Bernard and Ann Prestridge Yates. She was preceded in death by her husband, Clifford Turner Skelton and son Joe Skelton. Mrs. Skelton was retired from Southern Bell and she had a love and passion for world and home missions. In the early 70's she began a special mission offering called the "Feast of Ingathering". This offering is still an active event of the church every fall. She was a member of Free Chapel Church in Gainesville.

Survivors include her daughter and son in law: Debbie & Blane Helton, Cleveland; step-son and wife: Hugh & Louise Skelton, Gainesville; step-daughter and husband: Dorothy & Jim Waters, Cleveland: sister: Lena Knighton, Anniston, AL; grandchildren: Shane Palmer, Stacy Palmer and Adam Skelton, all of Cleveland and Stefanie Skelton Dahl, NJ, Eddie McLenn and Linda Collis, of Cleveland and Allen Skelton, Honduras; great-grandchildren: Brooke Mason, Eli Palmer, Barrett Palmer and Blake Dahl and 8 great, great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Friday, October 15, 2010 in the Chapel of Barrett Funeral Home. The Rev. Blane Helton will officiate. Burial will follow in the Union Grove Congregational Holiness Church Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 9 pm Thursday at the funeral home.
