Harry Nix

. Harry Nix, age 49, of Cleveland passed away Tuesday, November 9, 2010 at his residence.

Funeral services are scheduled for 2 P.M. Friday, November 12, 2010 in the chapel of Barrett Funeral Home. The Rev. Chris Anderson will officiate.

The family will receive friends from 2-4 P.M. and 6-8 P.M. Thursday at the funeral home.

Mr. Nix was born July 15, 1961. He was preceded in death by his father, Glenn Nix; mother, Betty Lou Patterson, foster father, John Johnson; adoptive father, Bill Watkins; brother, Jimmy Watkins. In addition to his children, Harry's life was enriched with the boys God frequently placed in his care as a foster parent. There are too many boys to list individually, but each one impacted him greatly with laughter, love, and life. Mr. Nix knew the value of family as he tried to make one for these children. He started Nix Grading Company which eventually turned into North GA Sewer and Drain that his son and daughter in law own and operate. Mr. Nix was a member of Shooting Creek Church of God where he came to know the Lord personally.

He is survived by his wife, Minnie Ayres Nix, Cleveland; sons and daughters in law, Jesse and Anna Nix, Cleveland; Shane and Christy Portwood, Douglasville; brothers Henry Davis, Charlie Davis, Jimmy Davis, Dickie Nix, Jerry Nix, and Bobby Watkins; sisters Glenda Brooks, Carolyn Carroll, Joyce Watkins and Susan Johnson; grandchildren, Rylee Ann Nix, Cleveland; Dylan Portwood, Ryan Portwood, Addison Portwood, all of Douglasville.

In lieu of flowers the family asks that contributions be made to White County DFACS White Christmas.
