Edward Joseph Sanders

Obituary Date: Monday, November 29, 2010
Mr. Edward Joseph Sanders, 74 of Sautee-Nacoochee passed away, Monday, November 29, 2010 at his residence.

Mr. Sanders was born on March 12, 1936 to the late John and Virginia Williams Sanders. He was also preceded in death by a daughter, Dawn Elizabeth Sanders and two brothers, Paul and Jack.

Ed grew up in Coconut Grove, following his own ideals, leaving the family business in Miami and moving to Tavernier, FL to marry Marlene Carey. He created Driftwood Trailer Park and then went to work at Monroe County Sheriff's department, first as a dispatcher, then working thru the ranks all the way to an investigator. Being asked to run for Sheriff, he declined, moving to the mountains of North Georgia creating, Sautee-Nacoochee Landscape Maintenance.

Ed was active in the Masonic Lodge #336 of Tavernier, FL. eventually Master of that Lodge and just recently achieved Master Mason, as well as with the Shriner's. He was a very generous and gentle giant of a man.

Survivors include his wife of 46 years, Marlene Sanders, Sautee-Nacoochee; sons and daughters in law, Eddie and Katie Sanders, Hiawassee and John and Lisa Sanders, Lakeland, FL; one granddaughter: Sierra Dawn Mangual and her husband Adriel, Plant City, FL.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm Friday, December 3, 2010 from the Chapel of Barrett Funeral Home. The Rev. Chris Shurtz will officiate. Burial will follow in Nachoochee United Methodist Church Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 12:00 noon to 2:00 pm prior to the services.
