Lt. Art Jetton

Obituary Date: Monday, December 13, 2010
Lt. Arthur W. Jetton, age 59, of Gainesville, Georgia, passed away Sunday, December 12, 2010 at his residence following extended illness.

A Celebration of Life Service is scheduled for 11:00 am Wednesday, December 15, 2010 at the First Presbyterian Church of Gainesville with interment to follow in Alta Vista Cemetery. The Reverend Paul Evans and Reverend Shawn Peppers will officiate. The family will receive friends Tuesday, December 14, 2010 from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm at the funeral home

Art was born in Atlanta, Georgia and is the son of Bobbie Jetton Ledford and the late Taylor Jetton and had lived most of his life in Gainesville. He was a 1969 graduate of Gainesville High School. He attended West Georgia College, and was a graduate of Gainesville College with a degree in Criminal Justice. He was retired from the Hall County Sheriff's Department with 30 years of service.

He was very instrumental in the inception of the Hall County Dive Team in 1979. During his years at the Sheriff's Department he was also heavily involved with the SWAT Team and training and served as a Public Information Officer. He also served as a public safety officer for Gainesville College. Following his retirement he started his own pool repair service, A + Diver. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church and the Rock of All Ages Sunday School Class. He was a member of Gainesville Masonic Lodge 219 F&AM. He was a 32nd degree Scottish Rite Mason and the Fraternal Order of Police. He was preceded in death by his son, Taylor (Rocky) Jetton and step-father, Roy E. Ledford.

Lt. Jetton is survived by his wife, Mary Helen Jetton, Gainesville; mother, Bobbie J. Ledford, Gainesville; daughter, Jessica Jetton of Atlanta; step-son and daughter-in-law, Mark and Stacy Carson of Brunswick; grandchildren Abbi and Jeb Carson, brother Joseph Ledford of Gainesville; special caretaker, Susan Campbell and numerous aunts, uncles, nephews and cousins.
