Arthur Elton Sanders

Mr. Arthur Elton Sanders, 100, of Gainesville died Wednesday December 15, 2010 at the Northeast Georgia Medical Center.

Born in Laurens County, Georgia, Mr. Sanders was the son of the late Arthur C. and Lula Jones Sanders. Mr. Sanders lived in Atlanta where he worked and retired from the Atlanta General Depot/Quartermasters Division in 1972. In 2000 he moved to Gainesville. He attended First Presbyterian Church of Gainesville where he was a member of the Basic Sunday School Class.

Mr. Sanders was active in the Masons and in 2005 received his 50 year apron from the Greenfield Lodge in Atlanta.


Survivors include his son and daughter-in-law; Bill and Lucy Sanders, Gainesville; granddaughters and husbands; Cindy and Pat Adams, Richmond, Va., Amy and Sterling Park, Gainesville; grandson and wife; Bill Jr., and Jane Sanders, Acworth. He had eight great grandchildren and one great, great grandchild.

Mr. Sanders is preceded in death by his wife, Era Harrington Sanders.

Graveside services will be held at the Mt. Carmel Baptist Church cemetery in Dexter, Ga. Friday, December 17, at 2:00 p.m.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Monday December 27, 2010 at the First Presbyterian Church in Gainesville. The Rev. Paul Evans and Dr. Matt McGowan will officiate. The family will receive friends in the church parlor after the services.

In lieu of flowers the family has asked that memorial contributions be made to the Basic Sunday School Class at the First Presbyterian Church, 800 S. Enota Drive, Gainesville, Ga. 30501 or Hospice of Northeast Georgia Medical Center, Inc..
