Rev. Eugene A. Power

Rev. Eugene Allen Power, Sr., 86, Toccoa, died Sunday, January 2, 2011 at the Canton Nursing Center in Canton, following several months of declining health.

Born December 2, 1924 in Stephens County, Ga., the son of the late Dr. Ivory Doyle Power and Vesta Scott Power.

He was preceded in death by 11 brothers and sisters.

Rev. Power was an ordained as a Baptist Pastor in 1958 serving eight churches over 32 years in Georgia and South Carolina: Poplar Springs
Baptist Church, Lavonia, GA; Madison Baptist Church, Madison, SC; Pine Grove Baptist Church, Gillsville, GA; Toccoa Creek Baptist Church,
Toccoa, GA; Franklin Baptist Church, Greenville, SC; Maple Heights Baptist Church, Greenville, SC, Westview Baptist Church, Greenville, SC; and Hills Crossing Baptist Church, Clarksville, GA.

He was a member of Ebenezer Baptist Church and was a U. S. Army World War II Veteran serving in Italy and North Africa.

Family members include his wife, Mary Herring Power of Canton; a son and daughter-in-law, Allen and Susan Power of Marietta; a daughter and son-in-law, Vickie and John Mayfield of Greenville, SC; grandchildren, Annie Power and Matt Power of Marietta; Ron and Sally Marshbanks and Gena Brewer of Greenville, SC; and four great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 Tuesday, January 4, 2011 at Whitlock Mortuary (120 Rose Lane, Toccoa, Georgia 30577, 706.886.9411) with the Rev. Andy Childs and the Rev. Jerry Stowe officiating.

Burial will follow in the Toccoa City Cemetery.

Senior Adult Men's Sunday School Class of Ebenezer Baptist Church will serve as honorary escort and will meet at the mortuary at 12:30, Tuesday.

The family will receive friends at the mortuary from 11 am until the funeral on Tuesday.
