Lavina Elizabeth Whitmire Dixon, 87, of Clayton, GA, passed away Thursday evening, January 20, 2011 at Stephens County Hospital.
She was born in Rabun County and was the daughter of the late Andy and Ethel Speed Whitmire.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three sons, Richard Dixon, Billy Dixon, and Eddie Dixon; two sisters, Mary Francis Dixon, and Lucy Thompson.
Mrs. Dixon is survived by her husband, Corbitt Vance Dixon, a daughter, Lynn Dixon Beck and her husband, Victor of Clayton; a daughter-in-law, Nancy Scruggs Dixon of Cumming, GA; a brother, D.L. "Slim" Whitmire of Clayton, GA; a sister, Mildred Southards of Mountain City, GA. Also surviving are 7 grandchildren, Charlie Beck, Eric Dixon, Corey Beck, Andy Beck, Paul Dixon, Gayla Dixon, and Leah Dixon, and several great-grandchildren and extended family members.
She was a life-long resident of Rabun County and was a member of Mountain Grove Baptist Church. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother.
The family will receive friends at Beck Funeral Home on Saturday, January 22, 2011 from 6 PM to 8 PM. Funeral Services will be held in the Beck Funeral Home Chapel on Sunday, January 23, 2011 at 2 PM with Rev. Joe Nichols officiating. Burial will follow in Pickett Cemetery.
Donations in Mrs. Dixon's memory may be made to the Clayton Volunteer Fire Department or to the Persimmon Volunteer Fire Department.
