David Amos Barnes, III, passed away on February 27, 2011, a kind, generous and honorable man. He was born in Macon, Georgia on March 29, 1921, to Eva Mae Hall Barnes and David Amos Barnes, Jr. and was affectionately called "Brother" by Sisters Leila Carolyn Lorber and Eva Hall Howell as well as many others.
Dave counted among his greatest achievements his graduation from The Alabama Polytechnic Institute (Auburn University) earning a Bachelor of Electrical Engineering, his service as a lieutenant in the US Army Air Corp serving as a flight and gunnery instructor during WW II and his distinguished career with Western Electric where he was involved with military projects all over the world. He resided for many years in Gainesville/Hall County and retired there from Southern Bell. He was a member of the American Legion, the Benevolent and Protective Order of the Elks, the Veterans of Foreign Wars and was an Emeritus member of Fort Hawkins Lodge #418 F & AM in Macon, Georgia.
He was a loving father and grandfather, a true friend and patriot. He loved all things of nature and enjoyed golf, hunting and gardening. He was preceded into death by his parents, sisters and a son, David Amos Barnes, IV. He is survived by daughters Yvonne "Susie" Haggard (Bill) of Athens, GA, Carol Lynn Sorrow (Ron) of Marietta, GA, and Patricia Hall of Mobile, Al; grandchildren Bet Ramsay of Ranger, GA, Jane Ivy of Vail, CO, Chris Sorrow of Dallas, TX , "Jr. Birdman" David Reuss of Mobile, AL; nephews David Martin Lorber of New York, NY and Robert Norton Lorber of Winston-Salem, NC; and long time friend and companion Carolyn Harris of Gainesville, GA.

Graveside services will be held at Riverside Cemetery in Macon, Georgia on March 13, 2011, at 2:00 pm with Michael F. Sorrow of Fayetteville, GA officiating.
