Mary Lou Smelcer Ballew

Mary Lou Smelcer Ballew, age 79, of Demorest, Georgia, passed away on Saturday, March 5, 2011.



Mrs. Ballew was born on January 17, 1932, in Belmont, North Carolina, to the late Lawrence and Flora Erwin Smelcer. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Eugene Ballew, her son, Travis Gene Ballew, and her grandson, Jacob Ballew. Mrs. Ballew was a graduate of Baldwin High School and attended Piedmont College. She was a member of Camp Creek Baptist Church.



Survivors include her daughter, Starlet "Star" Ballew, Demorest, GA; brother, Joe Smelcer, Cornelia, GA; grandsons, Kerwin Scroggs, Demorest, GA and Robby Goss, Clarkesville, GA; and three great-grandchildren.



Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, March 7, 2011, at Yonah Memorial Gardens will Rev. Connie Berry officiating.



The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. on Sunday, March 6, 2011, at Whitfield Funeral Home, North Chapel, Demorest, Georgia.
