James Leon Gravitt

James Leon Gravitt, 67, of Dawsonville passed away Saturday March 19, 2011 at his residence following a period of declining health.
Born February 7, 1944 in Forsyth County to the late Carl and Nannie Gravitt, he lived a number of years in Marietta and Alpharetta before moving to Dawson County in 1996. Mr. Gravitt was a retired commercial truck driver with almost 50 years of service. He was a member of Hopewell Baptist Church and was also preceded in death by his brother, Albert Gravitt.
Surviving are his wife of 45 years, Phyllis Gravitt, Dawsonville; children, James C. Gravitt, Dawsonville, Jennifer and Mark Franklin, Dawsonville, Jody Gravitt, Dawsonville; sisters and brother in law, Toni and Sam Key, Canton, Martha Tallant, Cumming; brother and sister in law, Clarence and Brenda Gravitt, Alpharetta; sister in law, Barbara Williams, Dawsonville; grandchildren, Brandi and Eugene Baker, Michael Gravitt, Amanda Gravitt, Joseph Franklin; great grandchildren, Dejia Baker, Dyon Baker, Ryan Baker; and a number of other relatives.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday March 22, 2011 at 11 o'clock at Bearden Funeral Home Chapel. Rev. Bud Sutton will officiate. Interment will follow in the Hopewell Baptist Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends after 2 p.m. Sunday and all day Monday at the funeral home.
