Barbara Allen Bradford, 82, of Gainesville passed away Monday, March 28, 2011, at her home following an extended illness of Alzheimer's disease.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, March 31, 2011, at twelve noon at the First Baptist Church Chapel on Green Street with Dr. Bill Coates officiating the service. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, March 30, from five to seven p.m. at Little and Davenport Funeral Home, 355 Dawsonville Highway, Gainesville.
Mrs. Bradford was born on February 6, 1929 in Lavonia, Georgia to the late Gus and Lena Shirley Allen. She is preceded in death by her husband, Philip Robert Bradford. She was a graduate from the University of Georgia, retired from the Gainesville City School system where she taught Home Economics. After retiring she went on to teach with the Department of Defense in Karlsruhe Germany. She was an active member of the First Baptist Church, member of the Joy Club Sunday school and a previous member of the First Baptist Choir. Mrs. Bradford served as a member and officer of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority, member of the Estes-Dozier Baptist Women's Mission Group and the Wednesday Study Club.
Survivors include her daughters and son-in-laws Jan Bradford Poole and Rodney Poole of Statesboro, Georgia, and KayAnne Bradford Hulsey and Jerry Lewis Hulsey of Gainesville. Grandchildren include Jessica Moses, Bradford Poole and Madison Poole. Brother Richard Allen of Bowersville and sister Nancy Allen Sheridan of Winter Springs, Florida, as well as a number of nieces and nephews.
