Irene Jones

Obituary Date: Tuesday, April 5, 2011
Funeral services will be held 2:00 pm Saturday April 9, 2011 in Chicopee United Methodist Church for Irene S. "Bibbie" Jones, 86, of Chicopee. Rev. Page Bennett will officiate. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Mrs. Jones will lie in state from 1:30 pm- 2:00 pm at the church on Saturday.
The family will receive friends Friday at Wards Funeral Home from 2:00 pm- 4:00pm and 6:00 pm- 8:00 pm.
Mrs. Jones passed away Tuesday April 5, 2011 of a sudden illness.
Mrs. Jones was born January 2, 1925 in Hall County to the late Charlie Andrew & Avie Pittman Southers. She retired from Chicopee Manufacturing Company with 40 years of service. After retirement she volunteered with the American Red Cross for over 20 years receiving the Volunteer of the year Award on 2 different occasions and she served as the American Red Cross Blood Services Volunteer Cordinator for Hall County. She also served on the Board of the Lanier Federal Credit Union and served as Treasurer for the Association of Chicopee Village Residence. Mrs. Jones was an active member of Chicopee United Methodist Church, served as past president of Chicopee UMW, Chairperson of the Parsonage Committee and had served on many other committes throughout the Community.
Mrs. Jones was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Barker Jones ,and also her brothers Jr. Southers, Otto Southers, Carl Southers and Buck Southers.

Survivors include sisters Florrie Nell Southers of Gainesville, Louise Leckie of Gainesville and Mildred Harrison of Richardson, Texas and also many nieces , nephews and many loving friends.
