George S. Pugh

George S. Pugh, 85, of Dawsonville passed away Friday April 22, 2011 at his residence following a period of declining health.

Born April 23, 1925 to the late Shelton and Minnie Pugh, he was a lifelong resident of Dawson County. A farmer for many years, Mr. Pugh owned and operated Pugh's Service Center for over 20 years and was a heavy equipment operator. He was a U. S. Army veteran of WW II where he served in the European Theater, was a founding member and former Chief of the Dawson County Volunteer Fire Department, was a sixty year member of Chestatee Lodge # 102 F & AM, and was a member of Liberty Baptist Church. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Opal Bennett Pugh; sisters, Evelyn Smith, Mazell Holbrook, Mardell Townley, Geraldine Martin, Iris "Dinky" Stewart; and brothers, Toy Dean Pugh and Charlie Pugh.

Surviving are his children, Deborah and Max Wehunt, Dawsonville, Danny Pugh, Dawsonville, Darlene and Nicky Gilleland, Dawsonville, Darrell and Marchael Pugh, Dawsonville; brother, James Pugh, Dawsonville; sisters in law, Inez Pugh, Cumming, Lola Pugh, Dawsonville; brother in law, Darrell Stewart, Dawsonville; grandchildren, Jessica and Rodney Castleberry, Nichole and Jared Green, Jonathan Hill, Whitney Pugh, Amanda Gilleland, Nicholas Pugh, Danyelle Pugh, Shelton Pugh; great grandchildren, Maddie Castleberry, Emma Kate Castleberry, Baylee Green; and a number of other relatives.

Funeral services will be held Monday April 25, 2011 at 2 o'clock at Liberty Baptist Church. Rev. Mitchell Rickett, Rev. Stephen Davis and Rev. Ruel Martin will officiate. Interment will follow in the church cemetery with Chestatee Lodge and military honors.

The family will receive friends Saturday from 2 until 9 and Sunday from 12 noon until 9 at the funeral home.
