Harry Wilson Martin

Obituary Date: Tuesday, May 10, 2011
Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 p.m. Thursday, May 12, 2011, at Ward's Funeral Home Chapel for Harry Wilson Martin, 92 of Gainesville . The Rev. Paul Evans and Dr. Jerry Gill will officiate. Interment will be in Alta Vista Cemetery . The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, May 11, at Ward's Funeral Home.
Mr. Martin died Tuesday, May 10, 2011, following a brief illness at Morningside of Gainesville, under the care of Hospice of the Northeast Georgia Medical Center .
He was born January 14, 1919 in Gainesville to the late Ben and Ada Martin. He was married to the late Lorene Sutton Martin for almost 68 years and was a charter member of Lakewood Baptist Church . Mr. Martin was also preceded in death by brothers Herbert Martin and James Martin; and a sister Mary Martin Waldrip.
Survivors include daughter, Harriette Martin, Marietta : son and daughter-in-law, Michael L. and Dianne S. Martin, Gainesville; grandson, Tony Espinosa; granddaughter Lisa Espinosa, Atlanta; granddaughter, Michelle Martin; granddaughter and grandson-in-law, Kym and Mickey Maddox, Gainesville; great-grandchildren, Tiffany and Angelina Espinosa, Pierre Kaisin, Atlanta, Alex, Lauren and Jarod Maddox, Gainesville; one sister, Marion "Bunny" Ayers, Gainesville.
Mr. Martin was a veteran of World War II, serving in the "Flying Tigers" with the U.S. Army Air Corps, where he flew more than 40 bombing missions. He founded Harry's Prop Shop in 1967and retired in 1981.
