Furman Roosevelt Kilby

Furman Roosevelt Kilby, 70, of Clayton, GA went home to be with his Lord Thursday, May 12, 2011.

Furman was born the seventh son of Ferd and Oza Kilby. He spent the majority of his life in the Persimmon Community where he was born and raised. He was an athlete in high school, served in the Army, and later worked in commercial construction and as a land surveyor. He was a member of Persimmon Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by his mother, father and two brothers, Carl and Coit Kilby.

Furman is survived by his loving wife of 36 years, Genell Henderson Kilby; two sisters, Christine Kilby Lee and Brenda Kilby; and brothers, Curtis, Claude, Fred, Jimmie, Dwight, and Deleano Kilby.

Furman is also survived by a very special nephew, Matt Cook and his wife Kate, and a number of other nieces and nephews.

Furman was one of a kind. He loved adventure, holidays, and children. He was an eternal optimist and full of great stories. He was blessed with a magnetic personality and would strike up a conversation wherever he went.

The family will receive friends at Beck Funeral Home Friday evening, May 13, 2011 from 6 PM to 8 PM. Funeral services will be held Saturday, May 14, 2011 at 11 AM in the Beck Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Doyle Patterson and Rev. Jimmie Kilby officiating. Burial will follow in Persimmon Community Cemetery with Pastor Glenville Nichols officiating.
