Funeral services are scheduled for 3:00 p.m. Wednesday, May 18, 2011, at Zion Hill Baptist Church for Mrs. Dorothy Barker Martin, 85, of Flowery Branch. The Rev. Scott Wilson and Rev. Wilburn Peeples will officiate. Interment will be in Zion Hill Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, May 17, 2011 from 2:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. and from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. The body will lie in state at the church from 2:30 p.m. until service time.
Born in Cherokee, N.C. she was the daughter of the late Alva O'Brien and Clara Belle Waldroup Barker. She was a member of Zion Hill Baptist Church.
In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by her husband, Elmer Bryan Martin, Sr., son; Elmer Bryan Martin, Jr., brothers; Elmer Barker, Franklin D. Barker, and sister; Opal Gladys Barker.
She is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Shirley and Tommy Martin of Cornelia, Janice and Bill Connolly of Laurel, MD, Peggy and Rayford Payne of Cleveland, Carol and Steve Strode of Tucker, Clarissa and Josh Cole of Flowery Branch, son; Elmer Bryan Martin III of Sugar Hill, grandchildren; Melisa Queen, Cheryl Smith, William Connolly, Erin Connolly., Sean Connolly, Winston Pittman II, Martin Pittman, Andrea Etter, Erica Adams, Kayla Carver, Carmela Cole, great grandchildren; Leah Queen, Jack Stewart, Katherine Connolly, Aidan Connolly, Liam Connolly, Omar Pittman, T.J. Pittman, Cameron Pittman, long time friend June Braswell as well as a number of nieces, nephews and other relatives and loving friends.
