Monroe Jackson Carlan

Monroe Jackson Carlan, age 88, of Alto, passed away Monday, May 16, 2011 at Northeast Georgia Medical Center.
Born in Hall County, GA, on the October 07, 1922, he was the son of the late Jim and Annie Jane Sutton Carlan. Mr. Carlan was a WWII, U.S. Navy veteran. He was of the Baptist faith and was formerly employed by New Holland Cotton Mill. In addition to his parents, Mr. Carlan was preceded in death by sisters, Lucy Staton and Daisy Frasier; brothers, Frank, George, Joe, Holman, Larry and Tommy Carlan.
Survivors include wife, Elvia Cook Carlan of the home; son, Marvin M. Carlan of Alto; daughter, Louise C. Nix of Gillsville; sisters, Ava B. Maddox of Talmo and Sandra Mangum of Hall County; brother, Jimmy Carlan of Talmo; grandchildren, Porsha Chambers, Elaine Williams, Jane Smith, Earl Nix, Jr., Kimberly Bennett, Craig Carlan, Rhonda Carlan, Larry Carlan and Kerry Bromley; 14 great grandchildren, two great-great grandchildren
Funeral services are 03:00 pm Thursday, May 19, 2011 at the Chapel of McGahee-Griffin and Stewart with Rev. James Duncan and Rev. Jason Long officiating. Interment will follow in Alta Vista Cemetery with full military honors provided by the Habersham County American Legion Post #84, Grant Reeves VFW Post #7720 and the Rabun County DAV Chapter #15.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6-9 pm on Tuesday and Wednesday.
