Russell Ellwood Lind

Obituary Date: Tuesday, June 7, 2011
Surrounded by love and filled with his strong Faith in our Lord, Russell Elwood Lind passed away early Tuesday morning, June 7, 2011. Born June 21, 1928, in Minneapolis, Minnesota, Russ graduated from the University of Minnesota with a BBA degree and went on to study credit and financial management at Dartmouth College. He served his country as a Sergeant in the Korean War, and went on to become the Vice President of Ralston Purina Eastern Region where he had the opportunity to live in Minneapolis, MN, Fond du Lac, WI, St. Louis, MO, and Columbus, OH. In 1978 he moved to Gainesville GA where he became President of Crystal Farms until he retired in 1996. He and his wife Dorothy moved to Lanier Village in 2002. Russ loved music, boating, sports and playing Bridge. All through his life he was involved with his church and served as a Sunday school teacher, youth coordinator, Choir member and a Deacon and Elder at the First Presbyterian Church of Gainesville. Past Civic and professional duties include: Board memberships in the Chamber of Commerce, Northeast Georgia Medical Foundation, and United Egg Producers. He was also the President of the Georgia Egg Association.

In addition to his parents, Ledger and Anna LeVahn Lind he is preceded in death by his daughter, Janis Carroll.

Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Dorothy Johnson Lind; son, Bruce Russell Lind; grandsons, Steven and his wife Jamie, Michael, David and his wife Bethany, and Daniel Lind.

A memorial service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday, June 10, 2011 at Lanier Village Estates Chapel in Gainesville, GA. The family will receive friends after the service at Lanier Village.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Minnehaha Academy, 3100 West River Parkway, Minneapolis MN 55406-2398.
