Homer Wilson

Mr. Homer Wilson, 90 of Gainesville died Thursday August 11, 2011 at the Northeast Georgia Medical Center.

Born in Baltimore, Maryland, Mr. Wilson was the son of the late Rufus and Elda Gurney Wilson. Mr. Wilson lived in Dawson County for a number of years before moving to Hall County in 1951. He was very instrumental in making the poultry industry what it is today. Mr. Wilson was President of Bruce-Wilson Company, President B & W Hen Farms, Inc.; President Hillside Hatchery; President Lanier Sales Company; Secretary/Treasurer H.F.C Feeds, Secretary/Treasurer Mar-Jac Poultry Company; one of the original founders of Select Laboratories, now known as Merial, where he served as secretary/treasurer, he also was secretary/treasurer of Diluent, Inc.; past president Georgia Feed Dealers Association; past president Georgia Poultry Inspection Commission; past board of directors Southeastern Poultry and Egg Association. Mr. Wilson also was past president and lifetime member of the Georgia Poultry Federation, member of the Gainesville-Hall County Chamber of Commerce, member of the Elks Club and served on the Board of Trustees at the Gainesville Junior College. Mr. Wilson was a member of the First Baptist Church on Green Street and the Anglers Sunday School Class.

Survivors include his wife; Edna Grizzle Wilson, Gainesville; daughter and son-in-law; Linda and Bobby Cornett, Gainesville; sons and daughters-in-law; Ronnie and Celintia Wilson, Canton; Steve and Angie Wilson, Greenville, SC; grandchildren; Steven Cornett, Gainesville; Robert and Sarahlyn Cornett, Hoschton; Dr. Ron and Bonnie-Lynn Wilson, Gainesville; Ashley and Santo Morici, Easton, PA; Laura Wilson, Jersey City, New Jersey; Daniel Wilson, Nashville, TN and Brittany Wilson, Greenville, SC; great grandchildren, Grace-Blythe Cornett, Hoschton; Naomi Cornett, Hoschton; Norah Cornett, Hoschton; Lilly-Kate Wilson, Gainesville; Baylor Wilson, Gainesville; sister, Betty Abbott, Silver City; brother, George Wilson, Gainesville. A number of nieces and nephews also survive.

Mr. Wilson is preceded in death by a son, Bill Wilson.

Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. Sunday August 14, 2011 at the First Baptist Church on Green Street. The Rev. Dr. Bill Coates will officiate followed by Abit Massey giving a eulogy. A private family interment will be held at the Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church after the service.
