Evalyn Knox Cooper, age 83, of Gainesville, passed away Sunday, August 28th, 2011. Evalyn was born in Washington, D.C. to the late
Rear Admiral Robert W. Knox and Esther Louise Hitchings.
She was a graduate of The University of Washington with a degree in Sociology. After obtaining her degree she returned to Washington D.C. and worked as a secretary for Senator Magnison of the State of Washington.
Evalyn married J. Robert Cooper in 1957, and they moved to Gainesville in 1958 following Bob's graduation from law school at the University of Georgia. Evalyn was an active member for many years of Grace Episcopal
Church and many other local civic and volunteer organizations. She was preceded in death by her parents and former husband.
Nana will always be remembered as an exceptionally kind, loving, humorous, and dedicated mother and grandmother. Her family wishes to express their heartfelt thanks to all those who have over the years prayed, sent thoughts, cards and well wishes. Also a special thank you to the kind and loving staff at Lanier Village Estates for their exceptional care given her over these years, along with Odyssey Hospice.
Mrs. Cooper is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, Robert and Leann Cooper, Michael and Christine Cooper, grandsons Samuel
Knox Cooper and Matthew James Cooper, Joshua and Christie Coleman, and their sons Jeremiah and Elijah Coleman.
In lieu of flowers the family requests any donations please be made to the Humane Society of Northeast Georgia.A memorial service will be held on Saturday, September 10, at 10:00 am
in the chapel at Lanier Village Estates which is located at 4000 Village View Drive, Gainesville, GA 30506, 678-450-3030.
